John Ewbank was born in Yorkshire and as a child he thought of himself as a real-life Heathcliff, wandering the moors alone and looking for Kathy. He discovered the gritstone outcrops instead and fell in love with rock climbing, just as a minor disaster struck and poverty forced his family to emigrate to Australia.
Once in Australia he promptly fled his family and lived in a cave in the Blue Mountains, eating seeds and berries and leftover lunch packs from the tourist buses. Instead of having a fatal accident by falling off one of his soulful vertical adventures he proceeded to merely get stronger and to climb all over the world, but then one day he was struck by lightning, as a voice from inside a cliff told him to 'start writing songs!'
He learned to play piano and guitar and made several recordings and sang his songs on stages in many different countries before deciding to settle in New York City, where he still lives. He still goes rock-climbing occasionally, he has a twelve-year-old daughter and is currently recording a new CD of some of the best songs he has ever written, to be entitled 'Songs from the Midnight Shift' and will be available in November 2005. He wishes peace and wisdom and happiness to all who read these words.
